Transformation of the International Airport in Samarkand

Air Marakanda, together with specialists from Munich International Airport (Germany) and Istanbul International Airport (Turkey), are working on the implementation of Uzbekistan’s first ORAT (Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition) program — a methodology of operational readiness, commissioning and transfer of operating activities to a new infrastructure. This program will allow the systematization and synchronization of a complex system involving a large number of different technological and business processes during the commissioning of airport.

Lufthansa Consulting, KPMG and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer are advising on the financial and legal details surrounding operation of the new airport. The initiative is mandated by the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to develop public-private partnership in the management of the republic’s airports” No. PP-5042 dated March 29, 2021. The document indicates measures for the widespread introduction of public-private partnership mechanisms and attracting potential investors to the implementation of projects for the reconstruction, modernization, operation and management of the republic’s airports.
